Extreme Liquidation Caitlin Diggs Series #2 eBook Gary Starta

I received this e-book as part of a free review, and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not usually one who likes FBI thrillers/mysteries with a twist of the paranormal, but this one had me reading. I regret not having read the first book in this series, but rest assured I will be looking to fix that quickly so I have a background. The plot seemed a bit complex to me in the beginning, but I attributed that to the fact I had not read the previous work in the first book. However, as I read it as a stand alone, I was drawn in quickly and found myself enraptured by the story. Multiple forces of good and evil, innocence and political corruption, and other powers at odds in the world Caitlin Diggs both works in, communicates with (through visions/dreams), and is approached by makes the entire read interesting in and of itself. As a character, Caitlin Diggs is not only believable as an FBI agent, it makes one wonder if such talents or abilities actually exist in our law enforcement. I don't doubt it.

If you plan on reading this book, I would highly recommend reading the first to get the background on Caitlin Diggs beforehand. It will save you the trouble of trying to understand what her place is in the organization we know as the FBI, and how her abilities developed. Overall, I enjoyed the read, and would pass this on to others. Well done Mr. Gary Starta!

Extreme Liquidation Caitlin Diggs Series #2 eBook Gary Starta Reviews

I was disappointed with this free read. The plot is a great idea, and one that required multiple levels. I knew it would be tricky to develop the story so it would have all the right elements; suspense, fantasy, logical analysis of solving the crime. But after the crime itself, the writing did not live up to the ideal. There were too many situations that had to be sustained, without going all over the place, which the author did not control. The writing took a decidedly academic turn using the word segue to a nauseating point. And, then always using the word upon, as well. As I tell my college writers, vary your wording. It will be more interesting.
This series is growing on me, the not quite caught onto conspiracy comes to bloom and Catlin Diggs as a character also becomes more comfortable.. When you consider an unseen cabal is trying to take over the world and bring about the end it's just another day at the office..evil is thwarted for the moment.. but never completely.. and Catlin must always face the future and it's confusing visions.. I am nearly thru book 3 by the time I remembered to write this review sorry it's kinda addicting.. I have to say I like Gary Starta's story telling much better then I did when I was done with book one it's really growing on me and I can't wait to get to book 4!
Author Gary Starta always fulfills the promise of an intriguing, fast-paced, fun read. In Extreme Liquidation his main character Caitlin Diggs, an FBI agent with a very rational, investigative mind becomes emotionally charged and has begun to pull precognitive dreams and waking visions into her crime-solving arsenal, the result of touching a magical, but highly dangerous in the wrong hands, crystal.

She, her partner Deondra (a Hallee Berry look-alike), her psychic cat Celeste and her sister Tara are the main characters in a cast of fascinating characters that also includes the purple robed Master, the black suited Apprentice, DNA bound potions that provoke rage, lust, truth and are used not only with an intent to bring on End Times but to counter the villains, the prime villan being the deceased, evil magician Aleister Crowley who has entered and possessed the body of a high government official, looking to destroy humanity in order to initiate his own ascension to the realm of the gods.

Highly imaginative and very entertaining. Highly recommended.
FBI agent Caitlin Diggs is an intriguing mix of paranormal investigator and analytic follower of clues in Gary Sarta’s Extreme Liquidation. Aided by a pleasingly enigmatic cat, a former ally on the force, and her partner at the agency, Deondra, she finds herself investigating crimes that might suddenly seem a lot too personal.

Lots of backstory and thoughtful character analysis—appropriate in an investigator I suppose—brings readers up to speed on earlier events and relationships, leaving them ready to learn more (especially about the cat). Meanwhile nicely changing viewpoints offer a chance to see what’s behind the scenes (again, especially with the cat—I love the chapter told from the cat's point of view).

When Caitlin’s visions start, the story simultaneously speeds up and slows down, allowing space for intriguing self-analysis, and lots of suspicion of evil in high places. Meanwhile evil from an ancient place stalks the protagonist, casting doubt on everything she knows, and suspicion on friends and foes.

A “red thread of destiny” offers protection, while a mysterious robe brings threat. Long passages of complex introspection offer a way through both deceits. And a slightly odd mathematics “weaves ethereal and material dimensions together.” Some strange word-choices combined with careful self-analysis to slow the story down. But fast action speed it up again, while hints of Stargate’s ancients blend with higher consciousness and “fourth dimensional” ascent, and the fate of the world might hang on the distinction between vision and dream.

Extreme Liquidation was a slower read than I expected, but it blends great characters with lots of intriguing ideas, and it tells a nicely complete story, making it a good introduction to the author’s Caitlin Diggs series.

Disclosure I met the author online and was pleased to find a free ecopy of this book.
